I adore buffets, and if its healthy (or at least seems healthy!) the better! Really, you can't go wrong with a salad buffet--unless you have rotten produce or really odd toppings. Sweet tomatoes had all the stuff you would want and more: beets, garbanzo beans, egg, all the traditional stuff, yummy dressings. The soups are hit or miss, my indian lentil soup lacked some spice, but the tomato was super creamy. Also liked the baked potato bar, so much so that I didn't leave room for dessert. Next time I'll have to try the frozen yogurt!

I went to Sweet Tomatoes for the first time today. Honestly, I can't see what the long lines are for. You pay $7+ for a marginal salad bar, soup bar, and pasta bar. I had to pay $1.25 extra for chicken to add to my salad! The soup bar had some interesting choices, but the 2 soups I tried (French Onion and Meatball) were not excellent. Hen House (grocery store) has a similar salad bar and is much cheaper.

I like choices, but I don't like going to buffets because you usually employ a level of gluttony that prepared portions don't allow and the food is usually average at best. I like Sweet Tomatoes because it can be potentially healthy--until you get to the "carb cart"--pizza, corn bread, muffins, pasta galore. They have seasonal salads that change, and at the end of the summer I was craving their mixed berry salad--yummy. Their chicken noodle soup was just ok--not much chicken or flavor, which was disappointing, but the broccoli cheese was really good. But can you really make melted cheese taste bad?? There is also a dessert bar, with soft serve and brownies. It is a good place if you are eating healthy--just go straight from the greens to your booth or if you are like me and you like to pretend you are eating healthy and then indulge in mac and cheese and ice cream with Oreo cookie crumbles. Overall, not a bad OP lunch spot.

I debated between 3 and 4 stars. I have no idea what draws me back to this place. Maybe it's that I can stuff myself silly and not feel as bad as I would at another place? I really dislike buffets, but this place does a decent job. Upon entry to the restaurant, you're faced with cafeteria-style trays and plates, followed by a mile-long cold salad bar. The salad bar has traditional items, but it also boasts several pre-mixed varieties: cesar, potato, tuna/pasta...you get the idea. I like ranch dressing at very few places, and this is one of them. If I wouldn't feel like a complete buffoon, I'd drink it straight from the ladle. And I really am not a huge fan of build-your-own salad, so I usually just get a small sampling of their pre-made salads; then, I get a nice helping of fresh broccoli and cucumbers with a sauce cup full of ranch. I soak it up with my veggies, then rush to their hot food bar. The hot food bar is complete with pastas, muffins, breads, soups, baked potatoes, and soft-serve. They shuffle among several themes, and feature one each month: lemon-inspired dishes, whole grains, stuff like that. I stick with their standard items: Their mac 'n cheese is fantastic. Elbow macaroni swimming in a "just tangy enough" cheese sauce. Honey butter complements their blueberry muffins. Baked potatoes, topped with sour cream, shredded cheddar, green onions, and bacon. And though I never get this, I have watched friends top brownie muffins with ice cream and devour it like it was their last meal. I have a love-hate relationship with their chicken noodle soup. Bland, boring, and bare. Fat, sticky noodles, almost dumpling-like, flavorless, but seem "from scratch". Ridiculously massive hunks of chicken breast, equally lacking in flavor and dry, sunken at the bottom of clear, dull broth. It's a senior-citizen's dream. There's literally nothing else in this soup, yet I down 2-3 bowls. Something about its weak delivery screams "homemade deliciousness" to me. Don't ask. I eat this EVERY time regardless of the other rotating soups. And though it lacks salt (flavor, vegetables, spices), I only add pepper. Hmm, a little wordy for a buffet review, but I don't want to condense now that I've put in the time. A few mentionables. They have many vegetarian (not vegan) options here, including chili. Depending on how you spend your money, you can find this place ridiculously expensive, or a great bargain. ($10 for dinner, no drink.) If you go at dinnertime, they are typically handing out warm, fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies, which are excellent. Sign up with them online and they'll send you BOGO coupons.

I visited Sweet Tomatoes for the first time and found it a tad over priced. Salad bar - When you walk in you get a tray and a plate and choose 1 of two sides of the salad bar. At the end you pay for your meal and seat yourself. The salad bar has the basic selections. Once you find a seat you have the option to get a baked potato, muffins, ice cream, and several different soups. I did find the soup variety good and the muffins were outstanding. Overall a good place to eat but expensive in my opinion for salad, soup, and potatoes. My husband and I paid 27.00. I find for the same price you can go to Hometown Buffet at 75th and Quivira and have a lot more selections for the same price.

Why did I come here?? Salad, soup & ice cream was TRASH. I had a bad feeling about this place when I parked but my hunger brain doesn't work too well. It's honestly just bottom of the barrel food. I tried two salads, 3 soups, two pastas & a swirl ice cream and every single thing was unacceptable. Won't be back. Couldn't pay me.

I'm not usually a big fan of buffets, because I'm a gastric patient*; but Sweet Tomatoes had a pretty decent variety of soup/salad offerings for a late mid-week dinner. The New England clam chowder was really quite good, the salad greens were all quite fresh even late in the day, and the cornbread tasted like my own homemade. Vegetarian offerings were clearly labeled as such. The dessert bar was uninspired (frozen yogurt, a couple of toppings, brownies) but otherwise I was pleased with the place. * Sweet Tomatoes, like most buffet restaurants, offers a discount (here, it's 50%) when you show your gastric patient ID card, so I didn't feel so bad about going and eating my paltry little portion. My date, on the other hand, went back for thirds.

Soups are good, salads are good. There isn't much meat, so if you like meat, you have about 5 options. But if you love plentiful & bottomless salads, breadsticks, pizza, soup & pasta bars, this is your place...

I use to love eating here! Great choices and always good service... Until tonight when i found a BUG in my salad. Disgusting! And when i told an employee they acted like no big deal and got the manager and she goes yes i said there was a bug in my food and she just walked off acting like nothing... Never got an apology or anything which i thought was extremely rude and not the way a manager should have handled it.

I am a fan of Sweet Tomatoes in OP! Salads are plentiful and with so many options, you're almost overwhelmed. I liked that it's a mostly vegetarian place. Soups are so tasty especially that chicken soup! If you're concerned about prices, you should join the Veg Club (online email subscription). You get a coupon every week so you never have to pay full price, ever!

I'm not a fan of buffets because the food all tends to taste the same and they generally seem dirty and sloppy however this is a decent one. The dining area definitely has a buffet feel. The price per person is high if you don't use a coupon; with a coupon it's about 10 bucks which is typical for an average buffet. There's nothing special about the salad bar and to be honest, I can make a better salad at home. The other offerings are mostly soups and a few "Italian" dishes. The muffins and breads are tasty and fresh but overall, the food is just not that great.

For $10 dinner, its a tad bit on the expensive side, provided only one trip to the Salad Bar and that too Chicken and other proteins for an extra $1.25. Other than that, they had good selection of soup. Restaurant was clean. Staff was very attentive.

Only reason not five stars is a little pricey...yes you can unlimited of everything but they could knock a dollar or two off. But luckily if you sign up for club veg (pretty much get updates coupons and so forth) makes it sooo worth it. You get a lot of lunch for two for 14.99 and dinner for two for 16.99 and I've gotten numerous coupons for lunch for one for like a dollar cheaper plus a drink. But the food is always fresh..usually run out of salad before the 30 minute timer is up and they make new. There are premium toppings you can add like grilled or fried chicken for 1.25 but it is proportioned now. Other than the price food is always good and they bring in new specials every two weeks.

  • Katie W.

I love salad. While they have quite a few mix in options, I wish there were more. Different soups on different days and a minimum of 5 or 6 each day. Yummy muffins. Always clean. Easy in and out in no time during the weekday lunch rush. Look for coupons in the Sunday paper and weekly mail ads.

The food was marginal, especially for the price. There was a couple of salads and the soups didn't appeal to me. But! The cobbler is AMAZING and almost makes up for the rest of the food. Te service is good and it has a nice atmosphere.

Quick and easy with a great supply of fresh veggies. Soup selection is also very good with choices. Pasta is weak and desserts are an afterthought. Still, food or lunch.

Coming from Southern California where sweet tomatoes aka souplantation is everywhere my family and I were more than excited to find this place! We drive an hour once a week to eat here! The service is wonderful, salad and soup choices are great and our kids are just happy eating here!

  • Anita V.

I'm so glad there's a Sweet Tomatoes out here(which would be Souplantations out in CA). I absolutely love their tuna tarragon & big chunks of chicken noodles soup! There's a question that's been boggling in my mind... Do we tip the bus boy/gal? I've noticed that older generations tend to...

Standard buffet with mediocre food. They are obviously lacking in the meat department. If you are looking to eat a pretty light meal, this might be the place for you. I recommend making your own salad at home instead though.

Love the value, email coupons are great! Great variety, and seasonal options. Literally something for everyone. Tomato Basil soup is the bomb. Delish! Always a go to for quick and healthy! Always like 8 soups, and lots of salad options.

The value here is large. The food is very good. The salads are fresh and there is pasta and pizza and soups are plentiful and tasty. This is all you can eat for under ten dollars. Great value and decent food.

I think I'm going to be a bad Yelper and copy and paste much of the review for this Sweet Tomatoes into a review for the other nearby Sweet Tomatoes? Why? Well, they're pretty much identical in layout and food options. Indeed, there really is very little that's different between the two of them. Both of them have a long salad bar that looks a bit more impressive than it is, but they do have some pretty nice pre-prepared salads as well as the usual salad bar fare and the occasional item, such as squash or beets, that you might not find on other salad bars. Everything is clean and well-maintained at the salad bar and all of the items look fresh. Just what you want in a salad bar. Staff here are friendly. They greeted us when we arrived and thanked us for coming when we left. At both locations! And they both have a person who wanders around handing out cookies. What a job! Who wouldn't want to hand out cookies for a living? That might be my new aspiration in life. Other than the salad bar, there are always several soups to choose from and some hot food items such as spaghetti. The soups are always really good, but perhaps a bit salty. The hot food items aren't favorites for me, but they're very comfort food-y, so some people might like that. They have a gluten-free coconut muffin which is moist, sweet and flavorful. Yum! They also have a few standard fruit items and self-serve soft serve ice cream with toppings. If you sign up for their Club Veg online, they'll send you a buy one, get one coupon for signing up, plus one for your birthday and some pretty decent coupons in between. If it weren't for the coupons, I wouldn't find Sweet Tomatoes to be a great deal, but the coupons make it incredibly affordable for the value.

Omg! Great place to eat. We were passing through Kansas City and my hubby suggested this place. There were plenty of salad options, including butternut squash, and the basic dressing choices. Lots of soups and chili to choose. I had the Asian ginger broth which I thought was very good . There were also breads, pastas, and desserts to go to as well but we were so full from the soup and salad we didn't need to even go there. Definitely would recommend going here. Will definitely stop by here again when in the area!

Appreciate the family friendly prices here as well as the friendly service. In reality, there are very few food choices outside of the salad bar. Adding a chopped ham or turkey to the salad bar for a chop salad would be nice. Buffet style foods are hard to manage and this buffet proves that - very limited choices. Will eat somewhere else next time.

Ahhh, Sweet Tomatoes, where salad is the star of the show, but the bakery, the pasta and four or five different kinds of soups are sharing the limelight. when you walk in, you are faced with a long salad bar that you can walk down on either side with equal enthusiasm and pick all the stuff you love. They have several pasta dishes that change monthly and taste divine. The Soups are all good; vegetarian and non vegetarian choices, cream of broccoli soup, and chili that goes great with their sweet cornbread. The corn bread alone is worth the $10.00 buffet, sweet and moist, just like grandma use to make. The pizza and cheese/garlic are delicious and hot. The mac and cheese is the cheesiest and made from scratch and for desert, molten chocolate cake with ice cream to satisfy your sweet tooth. The raw vegetables were remarkable. Children eat for less than you'd pay for them at a fast food restaurant... they might not even realize they are eating healthy!

Salad bar is like Ruby Tuesday but better!!! And there's a baked goods section, sweets, & more. It's a classy/healthy version of Golden Corral. Friendly staff. Clean. :)

My mom and I dined at Sweet Tomatoes for my birthday dinner and I was apprehensive at first to try a new place for my special occasion. Yet, as soon as I stepped inside, I was thoroughly impressed! The salad bar seemed to stretch on for miles. Just when you think you've turned into the healthiest, carrot munching rabbit ever, there are soups, pastas, baked potatoes, ice cream, and muffins (just to name a few) just around the corner. Mac and cheese is my favorite food in the world and Sweet Tomatoes made some outstanding mac and cheese!! The cheese was thick and creamy and delicious. Buffets are fantastic and Sweet Tomatoes makes you feel good about piling your plate as high as possible and going back for seconds....thirds....fourths...

Used to be good but last several times it was quite nasty (Salad Bar was still good). This appears to be a place in the initial phases of going out of business.

Lunch with a drink (using a coupon) comes out to over $10 per person. This gives you one trip through the salad bar, the drink, and all the soup, bread, and pasta you can eat. There are currently eight soups on any given day and they aren't too bad, there are two types of focaccia bread, some muffins, a baked potato "bar", and two or three types of pasta. Value for the money is basically nonexistent...hell, it costs $1.25 just to add chicken to your salad. I can't recommend Sweet Tomatoes at all for the price

  • Ryan W.

Solid salad bar. Enjoy the rotating monthly themed specialty items. Really good place for a lighter salad, soup, pastas meal. And I swear they put crack in their soft serve machine. I look forward to dessert through the whole meal. Seriously, give it a whirl.

The food is mediocre at best, but the good news is there's plenty of it. I've been here a number of times, usually for a work lunch, but never left pleased with the choice. The salads are ok, but anything else (pastas, soups, breads, ice cream, baked potatoes, jello, muffins) are pretty bland or resemble a salt lick. On top of that the lunch price is like $9 (drink NOT included) and $11 for dinner. For those prices I could at least get sick from a chocolate fountain at Golden Corral. It seems that right after I go here I tell myself that I'll never go back, but after a few months I forget and get pulled back in. I'm writing this review to remind myself to go find a much cheaper, much better lunch somewhere else!

I can't believe I had never been to one of these restaurants. Huge salad bar - ingrediants are fresh. Tons of choices of salad, soup, pasta, bread, ice cream....Can't wait to go back! The large salad bar keeps me in check so I don't eat the bad stuff.

Our family (husband and 2 teenagers) have been going to this restaurant on Sundays after church for almost 10 years (or as long as it has been open). When the kids were young, it was important to get food into their little mouths as soon as possible to avoid tantrums - from parents and kids. Buffets were a great way to do this. Plus, there are some healthy choices and our children actually liked salads. Now, we go on occasion, but at $8.99 per plate, it is a bit high for what you get. The food is good and fresh and I can always find at least one soup that I like. My son likes the pasta and my vegetarian daughter can always find a soup that she can eat. The small baked potatoes are a good option and the muffins are yummy. Today we ate there and they had banana muffins, which was new. Mmmmmmm. Plus, you can always have soft serve ice cream at the end if you think you need more calories. It's nice change from fast food for a family for a relatively healthy meal. i'm sure we will be back in a couple of months.

Great place to grab a quick bite. Large clean buffet with lots of choices. They have everything from salad, muffins and a huge selection of soups. Everything tasted great, the staff was very friendly, and the buffet is always stocked.

Wow is what I have to say about this place. This place had almost any topping you could think of for a salad. Had pasta salads that were amazing. 8 freshly made soups, pasta, bread, muffins, fruit...wow this is one of the healthiest buffets you could go to. Of course if you eat as much as I did not so healthy anymore. Very simple atmosphere. For my first time it was very easy to follow, just read the signs and off you go. Had their limited time lava lemon cake. HOLY SMOKES called the family to brag about this one. I have heard rumor that if you go between 12-1 it can be very busy. But before 4, is the better price.

I wasn't a fan of salads until I came to Sweet Tomatoes, but now I can't get enough of this place! Be warned, the prices are a little high, but as long as you join their email club you get weekly coupons that make it more reasonable. Their toppings are always fresh, even late at night. I'm not a fan of the premade salads, but if that's your thing they always have a couple options. Be sure to check out their menu online to find out what theme week they are having, as it could make a difference, especially with the desserts (peanut butter bars? Yes!) Do watch out for the premium toppings, as they cost a bit more. Or you can always hide them underneath the other toppings I suppose if your that kind of person. Even though it probably defeats the purpose of eating healthy and going to a salad bar, I always like to end my meal with chocolate lava cake covered in soft serve frozen yogurt, topped off with their in-house made caramel sauce. If you haven't been here in awhile, they no longer serve weekend brunch.
